Mid-west US recitalist brings Sowerby and Hampton to Toronto
Nicholas Schchmelter, Artist in Residence at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Flint, Michigan, will appear on the Noonday Recital Series, Wednesday, June 20, 2018 beginning at 12:30 PM at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, 1585 Yonge St., Toronto.
The all-American programme features two American composers: Calvin Hampton and Leo Sowerby. Sowerby is revered by many in the US as American version of Healey Willan. Hampton was know
n as an eclectic composer for the organ and martinot and remembered for his midnight concerts at Calvary Episcopal, New York, NY.
Nicholas is admired for his altered organ shoes which give him a performance edge of many symphonic works.
Nicholas is also Director of Worship and Congregational Life at First Presbyterian Church of Caro, Artist in Residence at Trinity Episcopal Church, Bay City, and Adjunct Music Faculty at Saginaw Valley State University, Michigan.
When not at the organ bench he may be found at the beach celebrating life or updating his social media feeds to fuel the interest of his enthusiastic followers.
